Read Across America

During the first week of March, Myself and several other Humanities Scholars traveled to Stiles Elementary to read stories to children in celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday. Because I am planning on pursuing a career in education, I thought this was a really great personal experience as well as just a really fun thing to do on a Friday afternoon. Kids are so much fun to be around and and they're a refreshing change of scenery from all the exhausted zombie-like college kids that you see every day especially at the end of the quarter. I had a really great time with the kids and I hope to do something like this again.

  1. I had a great time volunteering with Read Across America. The kids were all very friendly and the staff was happy to have us there. I loved Dr. Seuss growing up (and still do), so it was nice to be able to share his books with the kids. I found it interesting that almost all of them had seen the movie of Horton Hears a Who, but none had read the book.
