Humanities Film Festival

I had a great time at the Humanities Film Festival. The videos were funny, creative, and entertaining. We got to see how everyone combined social media and humanities. There were many different types of videos, from informative videos with many facts to videos with new songs made up by the groups. I loved the video that Ben made as well! I also loved the Social Media Revolution video. It contained many facts about social media. It was very interesting and I didn't realize how much social media sites like Facebook and technology like the iPad affect us. I am looking forward to next year's Humanities Film Festival!

  1. I had a great time tonight! It was a good way for people to see how their fellow humanities scholars think. All of the videos were very good and a part of me wants to do this again! Can't wait to see what they come up with next year. I had a blast with my teammates and I wouldn't trade the experience for anything.

  2. The film festival was awesome! The various videos presented showed the results of social media as well as incorporated the humanities. It was very interesting to see social media reactions in film because it highlighted some issues which we would ignore in common life. I hope next year's is just as amazing.

  3. The film festival was great. I enjoyed a lot of the projects that people have worked on. It was very exciting and nerve racking at the same time waiting for my team's video. The videos showed Humanities very well while incorporating social media into the picture. I learned a lot from this and I can't wait to see the videos for next year! :)

  4. I loved the film festival! Honestly, when you watch videos or presentations that your peers have made, like during my high school years, it usually just turns out to be awkward and embarrassing. However, I found the social media videos to be funny, interesting, enlightening, and entertaining. It was great to see how creative my fellow humanities scholars can be! Of course, I also enjoyed being part of the awesome group that won best in show :) I can't claim much credit for this--it was the artistic genius of everyone else that made it work. I was just the random person in the background who gave birth to a balloon baby (that part was awkward). I definitely plan to go to more humanities film festivals in coming years!

  5. The film festival was a very enjoyable experience. It was fun getting to make a video with my group, and then be able to see it on screen, along with the other wonderful videos that other people created. It was also interesting to see how each group chose to represent social media within each of their respective films.

  6. The film festival was one of the greatest events this year! I really enjoyed putting together our video and seeing everyone else's videos. It was a blast! I feel like doing it again! It was also great being part of the group that won LOL award :D Great humanities event!

  7. Like many of my peers, I had a great time at the Humanities Film Festival. I believe this project is a good way to make us as young adults really take a good look at how social media impacts our every day lives, since the aspects of the humanities are at the core. There were many different types of videos, from very factual to hilariously entertaining, and I truly enjoyed coming together with my friends to see the finished products of so much hard work. I most definitely plan on attending next year to see what the newest additions to the Humanities family come up with!

  8. I had a great time at the Humanities Film Festival! It felt awesome to finally "premiere" my groups video, especially after all the hard work (blood, sweat, tears...) we put into it. I could not believe we won the LOL Award, but I'm grateful for it nonetheless. I loved watching all the other different videos too; you can tell a lot of effort was put into the others as well. Congrats to all the participants of the festival, it was really a great time!

  9. The Humanities Film festival was honestly one of the most fun things I did this quarter. Filming the project was a great time and watching all the videos was also really great. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we did not win any awards but those who did did an excellent job and were all very creative, funny, and informative. It's probably one of the most fun events of the year and I'll probably go back every year to see it again.

  10. The Film Festival was a good time had by all. All the films were great. They all had their funny moments and touch of uniqueness. I didn't realize how much eveyone uses social media everyday. I didn't realize how much it has begun to shape our world. For good or bad it has begun to be an important form of communication not only in the United States but all over the world. I was suprised how much time I spend on social media a day when my group was making our film. I enjoy making the films and watching them. I can't wait until next year's films.

  11. From Jaclyn Sojda:

Out of the two Humanity events I attended this winter, the film festival was definitely my favorite. Not only did I enjoy making a film that was shown, but it also allowed me to see how other groups interpreted the concept of social media. I never would have compared it to WW2 or made it into a rap, but that’s what was fun about the experience. It was exciting to sit with my friends after a long day of classes and enjoy the movies everyone else had created. The concept of social media is a very controversial topic; it can truly be used for good or bad. By watching these videos, it was evident that every group had a different tactic for relaying if they believed social media was an asset or not to society. Overall, the film festival has been one of my favorite humanity events to date.

  12. Making our video was really fun. We used a lot of people on our floor (some in the humanities and some not) so it was fun to bond over this. we also got to show people who aren't in the humanities some of the fun things that we get to do.

  13. The Humanities Film Festival was a great opportunity for the students to showcase their creative and technical talent. Many videos were quite informative about pioneering and rapid evolution of the social media. This medium serves not only as a convenient tool for communication, but also as the ultimate vehicle to express the ideas, opinions, and passions of several aspiring artists, politicians, and philosophers. It also provides the web community with a limitless sources of facts and immediate updates about significant occurrences from a local to global spectrum.
The night was also characterized with light-hearted comedy and hardy laughter, qualities that are often shared in this scholars group. Everyone had their own unique element to bring to the table, making the evening a memorable one. I was thoroughly impressed with the work and originality displayed on screen.

  14. I also enjoyed the film festival thoroughly. I thought it was interesting to see the different ways people incorporated social media into their videos and how they connected it to the humanities. I had a lot of fun making our video as well. It would have been fun to have more free time to make the video even better. That being said it was still a fun event and it was good for some laughs as well. Definitely worth going to next year.

  15. Everyone's video was so creative! I had a great time watching all the videos. Some people took a more artistic or educational approach while other people put a lot time into making it humorous. The results were great! I remember overhearing everyone worrying about getting their videos in, but they all turned out great. I can't wait to see what the freshman do next year!

  16. I agree, the Humanities Film Festival was a good time and it was really interesting to watch all of the other group's videos. All the groups seemed to put a lot of effort into their projects and it really showed. I enjoyed the time spent with my group and making our video. It was a really fun experience trying to act out Daniel.

  17. From Laurie Veltri -

I went to the Humanities Film Festival, and I thought that it was a great experience. I enjoyed learning about how other people perceive the media as is infringes on more and more aspects of people’s lives. It was very cool to see how each group had such a different take on the theme “social media”. I thought that this was definitely something that should be done again for future first year Humanities Scholars because it really challenged me and my peers to try to think outside of the box and think about how the Humanities related to the new age of technology and media. I also enjoyed watching all the videos that everyone created, and the atmosphere in which we watched them on the big screen and with the popcorn really made me feel like my work for the video was appreciated.

  18. I really enjoyed the film festival and was a little sad when that one video wasn't working. I wish we had more time to work on the projects because me and the other members of my group are all commuters so it made it hard to even meet up and brainstorm let alone get in contact with each other to make sure we were all doing our sections in a similar fashion but it was fun!(sorry about the run-on sentence) We won the know-it-all award which was a pleasant surprise but we are shy so it was nerve-wracking to stand in up in front of everyone. :P Still it was a great experience and I would probably do it again just maybe plan it out better next time.
