Potluck Move Night - Shutter Island
Shutter Island literally blew my mind last week at the potluck!!! It was my first time seeing the entire movie, so I didn't really know what to expect going into it. I think I'm still trying to decide whether Leo DiCaprio's character, Andrew/Teddy, was crazy or not, though I'm pretty he was crazy based on the last few minutes of the film. I thought it was interesting how the film started out from Andrew's perspective, but at the end of the film, we got to see the reality of Andrew's insanity from the perspective of the outside world. The way the film moved from his perspective to that of the outside world is really cool because it kept the story suspenseful until the very end. Also, I loved how Andrew faked his relaspe at the end in order to receive a lobotomy. Great movie!!

I loved the ending too!! I thought it was perfect for the movie. I have never seen the movie before, and I thank humanities for exposing me to modern culture using mediums such as Shutter Island. I really appreciated the fact that everyone was so enthusiastic about the potluck and brought things! The event was a really sweet gesture to give us time to get to know each other, relax, and eat. Who could ask for more? I actually had a conversation with someone in the honors program here, and they are so jealous of scholars programs!! We do fun activities, we are given great opportunities, and we have a real sense of community that apparently other programs don't have. Essentially, the movie night was great and I hope we have more in the future!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Jen, Shutter Island was awesome! Just like Shauna, I've never seen the movie before, and it was awesome, a great movie. I thought that this event was great, it gave us an yet another opportunity to get to know each other and to enjoy great food and an awesome flick. I'm glad that I went to the event, it was a really fun time. I also agree with you Jen in terms of which was the real story behind the movie, that being the character of Andrew was the real one. I loved how the movie had such an epic twist at the end! Anyways, overall the potluck and movie night was fantastic and I enjoyed spending time with my fellow Humanities Scholars.
ReplyDeleteAs the general comment is that the movie was awesome you do not need me to tell you that. I did not want to see this movie when it came out but my mom did and she was upset when she found out I would get to see it when she still hadn't had the chance. I went to the potluck because I love food and my friend asked me to go with her. I still had my suspicions about the movie and guessed that andrew was crazy early on but th e thing about his wife and kids took me by surprise. A little while later i got it out from the library so my mom could see it becuase I enjoyed it so much. :) I had fun and want to go to the next one but I do have a suggestion..offer a vegatarian alternative main course.
