Chicago!
I have been to the Windy City twice now, and I can openly admit the second time was significantly more enjoyable than the first. The weekend seemed to fly by because of all the activities we had to choose from, and even the mandatory events were fun. Second City on our first night was hilarious - I think there were a lot of important topics brought up that were performed in a way we could all enjoy, but there were also a lot of goofy sketches to keep things from getting too heavy. Dinner with Ben and Daniel before the performance was also pretty cool... Even if they did get let in on my Canadian accent haha. We all had a lot of free time to explore the city, but walking together as a group to places like The Field Museum or Northwestern was also a great bonding experience, if you will. The last thing I have to mention is Gino's.... Wow. Best. Pizza. I. Have. EVER. Had. Overall, Chicago with the Humanities was a great way to spend my Veteran's Day weekend.

I definitely agree, this has been a highlight of my first quarter here. I really enjoyed Second city, they were absolutely hysterical! I also thought the Field Museum was a great experience, mostly because I saw a lot of what we're learning in Archaeology on display. The Humanities session was definitely an interesting portion of the trip. The panelists all had very interesting opinions and it definitely wasn't a dry discussion. Like I said, before, this was a great trip. I really hope I get to go to Chicago again.
ReplyDeleteI hate when this thing deletes your post! Ugh! Anyways, Chicago was amazing! Second City was hilarious, sushi with Ben and Daniel was delicious, shopping for five hours was magnificent, Gino's was indescribable... the list goes on. I got to experience Chicago in a whole new way by going there without my parents or high school band. To put it simply, I fell in love and I'm going to move there as soon as I graduate and live there for the rest of my life (no big deal). Not only was the city itself wonderful, but just being there with my fellow Humanities Scholars and getting to know a lot of them much better was great. I'm so glad that I got the opportunity to go! Next up, Toronto!
ReplyDeleteChicago was a lovely experience! From walking around the city and taking in it's large scale architecture and site-seeing, it was wonderful. I especially liked the bean! My favorite part of the entire experience was Gino's pizza and Navy Pier. The pizza was a one-of-a-kind, delicious dinner and Navy Pier, albeit windy, was gorgeous. I loved riding the Ferris Wheel and seeing Chicago's high skyscrapers touch the night sky!
ReplyDeleteOverall the trip was a blast and I am very happy to have been able to share it with my fellow Humanities Scholars!!
Chicago was an awesome experience. Not only did I get to visit one of my favorite cities, I got to know people from the Humanities group even better. We took many "OHIO" pictures all over the city. Second City was hilarious. However, I can't deny my favorite part of the trip was shopping on the Magnificent Mile. It seemed like they had all my favorite stores lined up in a row. Gino's Pizza was very good but I still remain a New York pizza fan. Chicago at night was beautiful. This weekend was such a good time!
ReplyDeleteI had an awesome weekend in Chicago! I really feel like I got to know the other Humanities Scholars and Ben & Daniel a lot better. I a such a city girl and I can't wait until I can actually live there. I loved Second City, I have never seen anything like it; it was so funny! I also enjoyed shopping on the Magnificent Mile and Navy Pier. However my favorite activity was probably taking OHIO pictures at the Bean. While I was there I also got to see my friend from home who attends Columbia University of Chicago, so it was really nice to see him again after three months!
ReplyDeleteThe Chicago trip was definitely better than I could have expected. I got to talk to people that I've never met before in Humanities Scholars and see new places. My favorite part of the whole trip must have been Second City, I love improv in general and this was the best I've seen. The second best part of the trip was going to Navy Pier. Before we went there I had no idea what it was going to be like, but it turned out to be amazing. There were so many shops to go to and things to see. The ferris wheel was by far the coolest part. Although I was too scared to go on it, t was still cool to see lit up in the night sky. The bean was another fun part of the trip, we got to take funny pictures and get to know each other better while we were there. Overall Chicago was wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHeather and all others who commented on this blog post: I am recognizing that everyone seemed to get to know their fellow Humanities Scholars better, as well as explore and experience the city with the independence of a college student. I completely agree. I greatly enjoyed all of the group events, as I talked many whom I typically do not cross paths with on a regular basis on campus. Additionally, I found the free time in between events to be especially cool, as we were allowed to explore and navigate the city on our own. I feel that ,overall, the Chicago trip helped me to further my college independence and explore the city in a more mature and adult like setting, as we were given our daily, allotted free time to venture.
ReplyDeleteFirst time in Chicago..so different from the life in Columbus.Larger and more modern city, stronger wind, more delicious food, I appreciate everything I enjoyed with Humanities friends. The Second City is amazingly great. I can understand the comedy although sometimes I don't know what they are talking about( sometimes!not all the time). It is such a funny series of stories about love! Love it~~ Navy Pier is also interesting. My roommate Balpreet and I am so awesome !We ate ice cream in such strong wind at night!! I felt I was flying!! Anyway, I love Chicago trip! And I love the friends I made there!! Amanda, Caroline ..and Scott!! Love all!!
ReplyDeleteThis was my first time visiting the "windy city" (which by the way, the wind in the city is not the reason for the name. google it for an interesting story) and I am so so so glad that I got to enjoy it by going with all of my friendships that I have created during my time with the Humanities group. All of the activities that were planned were very fun, and I was very happy that we all got some free time to venture into the large city with just our friends, a cheap map, and a transit pass. It was very interesting to argue with everyone over which bus/metro to take, and in the end just asking one of the friendly locals. I originally thought that going to Gino's and the Navy Pier was my favorite part of the trip, but it's the memories like exploring the city that I think are the most memorable. I am looking forward to going on some more road trips with this group! Thanks to Ben and Daniel for putting together such a great trip!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I have been to "the windy city" before, this time was without my parents and was not revolved around looking at colleges. This was an awesome way to bond with my fellow Humanities Scholars and explore one of the most cultured cities in America. With its differing architectures, street performers, and myriad of food, Chicago is one of the most diverse cities. Everywhere we turned there was something that connected directly to the humanities. We looked at stores, visited the Bean, and had our first experience at a "hostel." Having deep dish pizza (which is amazing), wandering around Navy Pier, and exploring the Field Museum were great ways to spend my long weekend.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I never looked out the top of the any tall buildings, I really enjoyed the trip. After eating an authentic Mexican meal in a city where pizza is so popular I joined up with the rest of the group to see Second City Improv group. The show was so much more then I expected going in. It was akward sitting next to advisors and friends form school while watching a show with such crude humor. After everyone loosened up it was one of the funniest shows I've ever seen. the trip was enjoyable throughout down to the eight-hour naps I took there and back.
ReplyDeleteChicago was an amazing time and a great experience. It seemed that the weekend flew by. I agree with all the points that Heather made, except of course the one about a Canadian accent in which I don't have. At first I was sceptical about the trip and didn't want to go, and when I saw the first email that Ben sent about there were still open spots, I figured I would tag along. I'm glad I made this decision, it was a great time. Up until that weekend, I haven't been to Chicago, and it was an eye-opening experience for me. I thought that I grew up in a big city, but after visiting Chicago, Cleveland seemed rather small. It was awesome to be walking through the vastness that was Chicago, it seemed as though everything moved at the same pace. My favorite mandatory event that we went to was the Field Museum. Walking through all of the exhibits and bonding with some great friends was a rewarding experience. I enjoyed everything about the trip, and I wish that we can have more opportunities to do things like this in the future as Humanties Scholars.
ReplyDeleteI have never beeen to "the windy city" before, and it was very fun. It was fun going to The Field Muesuem, Niketown, and the Magnificent Mile. I was disappointed that the line to go up the Sears Tower was over two hours. Gino's Pizza and Second City was the best.

ReplyDeleteChicago sounds amazing! I have been there twice before and it can be really cold and well really windy. My favorite part of Chicago is they have a river tour which shows a good part of the city on water. (I didn’t go to Chicago with you guys, so I don’t know if you went to this or not)
