hitRECord at the Movies with Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Yesterday, my roommate and I traveled south to the Union to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt perform. We were't exactly sure what the thing was about but we liked Joe so it was ok. HitRECord is a production company started by Joe that focuses on group collaboration and short films. Throughout the night, we recorded his performance and watched various short films from his company and some lucky audience members were brought onstage. Even though this event wasn't specifically for the Humanities Scholars, my roommate and I definitely found that it coincided with our ideals. Art and Culture being the most prominent but there was some philosophic messages as well. It was a great time and we were both glad we had gone despite the fact that we didn't quite know what to expect.

  1. I agree with Celena. Although this event was a specified Humanities event, it definitely incorporated the art of film and the collaboration of many people to create a film. For example, people can post their own videos on the HitRecord website and the company takes the videos and creates a short film. Joseph Gordon-Levitt showcased a coupled of short, yet very artistic films. Some were on the verge of strange while others were short and sweet. Gordon-Levitt also discussed the different experience people gained from going to a theater and being part of a crowd rather than watching the movie at home by themselves. It was overall a very interesting event.

  2. I definitely agree with the Laura and Celena. Joseph Gordon-Levitt's website HiRECord has a lot to do with incorporating everyones creative ideas and intertwining media, which, I think, has a lot to do with humanities. I thought that the seminar was pretty interesting. He should a lot of cool clips, but honestly I just didn't get what the point of many of them were. Regardless, it was entertaining and I loved seeing a celebrity in real life. I can't wait to see his next movie, The Dark Knight Rises, when it comes out next year.

  3. I agree with each of you. HitRecord definitely incorporated the ideals of the humanities. I didn't completely understand Joseph Gordon-Levitt's company, HitRecord, before going and I admit I was surprised that the films they produced were so artistic and simple, which was great because I honestly believe that these short films were based on the premise of a random visitor to the HitRecord website and created by collaborating with multiple others. His company is very small but I think if Joseph Gordon-Levitt wanted it to be bigger, it would be. His new enterprise surprised me and showed who he was outside of the roles I'd seen him play. It was unexpected but very interesting.
