The Mystery of Edwin Drood

I went to see the Off the Lake production's performance of The Mystery of Edwin Drood. While all of the cast seemed to be having a wonderful time performing the musical, I cannot say the same for the audience watching the production. The story within a story aspect was very confusing. Not only was each performer supposed to be someone within the play, but also a person within their imaginary playhouse. This was very confusing to people (like myself) that had never heard anything about the play. The songs were mostly boring or  necessary and largely had nothing to do with the plot or character development. The voting done by the audience to chose the killer was the most enjoyable part of the production.
