West Side Story is an American musical that was inspired by William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet. From the onset, I could tell the similarities between the two conflicting gangs (families) and the immediate love interest of Tony and Maria (Romeo and Juliet). However, it takes an interesting twist as it is set in the Upper West Side of New York City. However, while I did not particularly enjoy the story line, I did find the music to be highly entertaining and the performers to be quite superb. This will have been my fourth time at the Ohio Theater, and I hope it will not be my last! Next year the year they are doing two shows that I would really like to see. Wicked (which I have already seen) and Les Miserables! This experience was fun as I was able to go with my friends and watch a play that I had really heard nothing about. I got to meet an older Humanities Scholar and she was really nice. Thank you guys for the opportunity!
West Side Story was so good, I absolutely loved it. It was great and I loved every song. Of course, Broadway productions, in my opinion, are the best either way. I would love to see this again. I have read a little of the play before so I wasn't to surprised by the differences which were pretty nice. The movie wasn't as different. I would love to see more productions like this with humanities, hint, Beauty and the beast or Les Mis. It was great to hang out with friends and take a break from classes. Thanks Ben!
ReplyDeleteI was so excited to attend West Side Story. Freshman year, my high school performed the musical, so the entire play, I was singing and dancing along. I was surprised by the rearrangement of some of the songs and scenes throughout the musical. It was well done, just unexpected. This was one of my favorite events that we have done, and I agree with Breana, I would love to attend more productions like this!
ReplyDeleteWest Side Story is one of my most favorite musicals and I was really excited when there was an opportunity to see it this year. The cast was very talented and of course the music and dancing was great. I had seen the music several times, but seeing the show performed as intended was a completely different but equally awesome experience. I definitely think we should continue to see productions like this.
ReplyDeleteSince I really enjoy musical theater, I thought I would love West Side Story. I had never seen this musical performed live, so I was disappointed when I saw this production. Even though the cast performed well, I just felt that the arrangements of the songs were hard to follow, the accents were too thick, and the casting was not true to the original. All of these factors made the production feel disorganized and disconnected.
