Taste of OSU
On Friday, I attended the Taste of OSU event at the Union with Anna, Heather, and Bethany. At first I was a little ambivalent (mostly because, for some reason, I thought it would be free... cheap college student attitude), but after perusing the edible options, I decided that it was well worth it. I stopped by the Malaysian stand for a delicious rice cake brownie, the Indian stand for scrumptious chicken curry, and the Iranian stand for a chicken, pomegranate, and rice dish that I will never forget. We finished off our meals with a shared mango pudding dessert. I would gladly pay $6 any day for such a tasty upgrade from college dining! For all who did not attend- go next year! With the exception of the massive crowds, everything was fantastic. On top of the food, we got to enjoy a plethora of dance and singing performances. It was a great evening!

I agree whole-heartedly with Gwen's experience. Taste of OSU is an experience I am so happy to have. The food was exquisite, whether it was simple milk tea or flavorful Indian rice. While the buzz of so many people, cultures, and food emanated through out the Grand Ball Room, it was being there with my friends that made the night truly worth it. After we feasted on the different "tastes", we discovered old yearbooks near the fireplace on the second level of the Union. Surfing through the pages, we realized that the opportunities OSU has granted us are much similar to even students from 1988. The importance of our experience here only goes to show how every day we have new encounters and it is with those, that we become full-fledged Ohio State students.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, I was kind of nervous about attending Taste of OSU. My first quarter at Ohio State saw me trying out all sorts of new foods - sushi being my favorite so far - but I still find myself a bit apprehensive at the prospect of putting myself out there further. Reflecting on it now, I am incredibly glad I went to the event, and with the friends that I did. The food was simply amazing, with "tastes" ranging from dinner-like entrees to heavenly deserts that I wish I could make on my own. In addition to the great food, it was really an eye-opener to get to see for myself all the diversity we have on campus brought together on one night. I don't think it's possible to realize just how many different parts of the world are represented at Ohio State until you attend an event like Taste of OSU, and I definitely intend on going again next year.
ReplyDeleteI went to Taste of OSU with Balpreet. It is the first event I have attended that shows such great diversity. The whole union was like an epitome of global world. We were totally engaged in food. We have nowhere else in Columbus that we can enjoy food all over the world at the same time. Especially when I bought food from those who dressed in their countries' traditional costume, I felt like I was kind of learning their culture. The show was awesome as well. So many Indian dances, which made Balpreet super happy and can't help dancing when eating. I saw a branch of Japanese guys dressed as savage ,showing their muscles and tattoo...That's so cool ..so regret that I didn't stay that late to see their performance. Anyway, I really enjoyed Taste of OSU. Best social event ever!!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed going to the Taste of OSU because there was a lot of food and I love food. I went to the Japanese food station and got a dango and an inarizushi. I also got some food from the Pilipino Student Association. It was all really tasty and I always love trying new food. I really enjoyed watching all of the cultural performances as well. It was an eye-opening experience because I realized how different these countries really are and I saw this through the dances and the music. Watching the performances and eating the food makes me want to visit all of these countries. I can't wait until the next Taste of OSU!
ReplyDeleteTaste of OSU was a bunch of fun! There were colorful booths, performances, and of course food. I was determined to try foods I'd never had so I first went to the Laotian booth. It was a cold dish of beansprouts, ground beef, and hot peppers. The dish was really spicy! It was pretty interesting. In the second ballroom, the Indian clubs had a huge display with lights and music. It was definitely the most impressive booth at the event. Later, I couldn't help myself, and went to a booth with food I had eaten many times before but was so good I couldn't resist: the barbeque club. I had a delicious pulled pork sandwich. I had a great time overall and left with a full stomach. Will definitely be returning next year!
ReplyDeleteTaste of OSU was awesome! Not only did I finally get to have real indian food that reminded me of my mom, but I got to taste Polish food, some African food, and even Middle Eastern food! The performances were also quite awesome - however, as an Indian dancer, I couldn't help but be critical of the performances by the Indian students. However, the one performance that stuck with me was the warrior display from Indonesia? So intense and awesome. By the end of the night, I was bloated with an overly full stomach, and a new appreciation for foreign food. :)
ReplyDeleteTaste of OSU was so much better than I thought it would be! There were so many booths, it was a bit overwhelming. I didn't want to spend a lot of money but at the same time I wanted to try everything..not a great combination. I ended up settling on 5 tickets. I didn't think 5 "samples" would be enough but by the end I was stuffed! I attribute my full stomach to my wise sample choices. I would pass up a small cookie for a plate of potatoes! The food was all really good but my favorite was the egg tart from the Chinese booth. The only thing that would make taste of OSU better would be if it was free.....but I get that that'd be really hard to do! Oh and I forgot that I really enjoyed the entertainment as well! Hearing authentic music is always so fun for me! Overall, Taste of OSU was wonderful and I can't wait to go again!
ReplyDeleteThe Taste of OSU was rather overwhelming for me, as a picky eater finding something to eat was a bit of a challenge at first. But i eventually found food I really enjoyed! The best part of the taste of OSU was the entertainment, I watched all of the dances from one of the upper rooms of the Union that I had never sat in before with people from my floor. Although it's true that this event would have been better if it was free it was still a relatively cheap meal, and it was nice to eat food other than campus food!

ReplyDeleteTaste of OSU was pretty amazing! I was not prepared with how many people would end up attending. It turns out the OSU students are extremely passionate about embracing other cultures. I wasn't nearly prepared enough for how many different cultures would set up stands either. I made it my personal mission to visit every one, but, as crowded as it was, that proved a difficult feat. I can't wait to go next year!
