Room Hosts & Some Major Realizations

Yesterday, my roommates and I (of room 331) got the wonderful opportunity to show our room to prospective students and scholars on Honors and Scholars Day.  We prepped for the day by spending a grueling 2 hours cleaning, vacuuming, dusting, and de-cluttering.  By the time the tours rolled around, we were exhausted, but our room was pristine and very homey looking.
Around 10-12 prospective students came through, looking at the room with a face of intimidation and fear.  I was surprised they would be so silent and terrified looking, but then I remembered that we were technically older than them and had a huge step up on them (being in college and all).  I felt pretty powerful that myself, Heather, Jaclyn, and Liz could be so scary!  Of course I was super nice, inviting, and answered any questions the parents had.
I think the four of us made a great impression as well and I hope those kids choose Humanities.  We are an awesome group of kids.  It was cool to be able to pay it forward in the sense of passing on all the good things OSU and Humanities has done for us to the "new kids".  And I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the full circle moment when I realized that just a year ago, I was one of those touring, terrified kids, and now, I have lifelong friends and am apart of a giant, incredible family. I couldn't be more blessed.  The end!

  1. I love that you were able to make this impact on the new kids. I can't wait to meet these youngins next year and intimidate them with positivity and enthusiasm for Humanities!

  2. My room (311) actually just recently got a visit from some prospective students and it was really exciting to see how excited they were to be looking around our dorm and about college in general. Things that are now becoming mundane to me seemed to excite them. The freedom and independence, the worry of who their roommates will be, all seemed like feelings from so long ago for me. But these students were living through these emotions. To an extent explaining what it is like living in the dorm and what it's like to be in the Humanities program made me think about how much fun I have had here already. It was really fun to show those students a glimpse of OSU life and I'm glad I could promote the Humanities Scholars!
