38th Annual Medieval and Renaissance Faire
I enjoyed going to the Renaissance Faire on the South Oval. One of my good friends was in it, so that made going to the event even better. I liked people watching because there were so many people in Renaissance costumes. Many of them were handmade. I watched two performances, a jester show and a dance. There were many vendors including, "Gardenia's Garb", "The Goblin Trader", and "Twisted Gypsy Braid". They sold renaissance clothing, jewelry, artworks, and even had Henna. They had food such as turkey legs, funnel cakes, and even fried pickles. I'm looking forward to going again next year!

The Renaissance Faire was a very enjoyable and entertaining event. We went to the Faire only to look around and get a feel for the festivities but derek, chris, and me ended up getting side-tracked by one shop in particular. The Gothic Edge. This store was showcasing many weapons from that time period. it was very neat to see the authentic weapons on display. I am proud to say that me and chris did not walk away empty handed. Oh no we both had set our hearts on one of the weapons displayed at the shop. My own is a gladius. it was probably one of the better parts of my weekend.
ReplyDeleteI am part of the Medieval and Renaissance Performers Guild and this was my first Faire. I have gone to Ren Faires in the past and so it was interesting being on the other side. As performers, we all had characters and back stories and interactions that patrons didn't get to see much of. The interaction with patrons is also interesting, as some people will come up to you and talk to you, while others don't want to talk with you at all and others are willing to listen if you talk to them. My favorite part of the day, though, was probably towards the end, at which point me and another performer decided to put on improvised show, which actually ran for fifteen minutes and gathered a pretty big audience. That was pretty exciting, especially because when we first got onto the stage, we had no idea what we were going to do.
ReplyDeleteI actually stumbled upon the Renaissance Fair on accident while my Aunt and cousin were visiting me. We stopped to look around it for a while and really enjoyed ourselves. It was really neat to see all the different costumes and wander in and out of the vendors. My cousin also really enjoyed getting a Henna tattoo.
ReplyDeleteI had a friend in Renaissance Guild, so it was interesting to see all the work that was put into making the fair authentic. For example, my friend was required to make her own clothes to match the time period. That was really impressive in my mind. They pulled it off really well, too. Everyone stayed in character and was extremely knowledgeable about the time period. You could tell that the people there were passionate about what they did. I'm definitely planning on going next year to see what they come up with next!
