Mentor Meet-and-Greet

I am, in fact, not a mentor, but I thought I would stand in for my roommate (who is a mentor) and meet a few new people.  I didn’t do a lot of talking, but it was interesting to hear what other people had to say about previous experiences in Humanities and what the new people expected from Humanities.  One of the questions asked was how easy or difficult it was to get to enough Humanities events to fulfill the requirements, which was a question my introverted self had last year.  I was and continue to be somewhat surprised at how everyone seems to agree it is really easy to go to enough events.  I am in this camp as well.  It’s not hard to go to enough or even superfluous events.  There were a few other questions asked, especially about where to get food on and off campus, where to find groceries, where to find different sorts of food, most of which were questions I had last year and never really had answered.  So, it seems like the mentor program is doing its job.

  1. After the first Humanities Meeting, we had the Mentor Meet-and-Greet. It was the second time we had met our mentees; we had met them earlier in the week at Haverfield. We told each other what we did over the summer by playing "guessing the lie" game. One of them is a dancer so I told her about the different dance classes and clubs on and near campus. It seemed like they were having an easy transition and have already made many friends. I hope that we are a useful source for them. I'm looking forward to the mentor week!

  2. I was also a part of the Mentor Meet-and-Greet. Kylie and I had a chance to get together with our mentees a second time and it was nice being able to see how they were doing, and to find out a little more about them. They are super friendly and we're lucky to have them! I'm glad we had this event right after the first meeting because a lot more people were able to attend- we should definitely do this next time!

  3. I really enjoyed the meet-and-great because I got to know my mentees better. We had never meet before so Gwen and I were super excited to learn more about them, and get a feel for how their freshman year was starting. Overall it was a good event, and a fun, social activity to interact with our mentees!

  5. The meet and greet was basically awesome, even though only three of our mentees were present. It was great to get to know them and offer them some advice since we have already been in their shoes. It is nice that every time I run into one of them on campus, we actually recognize each other and say hello.

  6. It was nice to have a way to meet our mentees and have a face to the name starting out. The only problem is I still don't know who one of my mentees is...oh well, I guess that means he is doing well if he doesn't feel the need to e-mail/meet with us. :)
